"The purpose of the following clinical study was to evaluate the effects of Korean Insam on the spermatogenesis. Seventeen male infertile patients with oligospermia (below 40 X1,000,000ml. in sperm counts) were subjected in this study from Mar, 1, 1972 to Aug. 31, l972. The average age of the patients was 33 years (28-39 years). The duration of sterility averaged 4. 5 years (1-10 years). There was no contributory factors in the patients past history and occupation which related to the causes of sterility. All were given the extracts of one to two roots of Korean Insam by mouth daily for about two months (1-3 months). Observation was toward the changes of the semen volumes, sperm counts, motility and morphology, and the following clinical results were obtained.1. The effects on sperm counts are: marked effect: 4 cases (23.53%) moderate effect: 1 cases (5.89%) slight effect: O no effect: 12 cases (70.59%) The effective cases were in 5 (29.42%) 2. The effects on sperm motility: marked effect: 3 cases (17.6%) moderate effect: 3 cases (17.6%) slight effect: 2 cases (11.8%) no effect: 9 cases (52.9%) The effective cases were in 8 (47.0%) 3. No significant changes were observed in sperm morphology and semen volume. 4. Nine cases (52.94%) showed the evidences of effect in one of the sperm counts or motility and 8 cases (47.O6%) showed no changes in either one. "
